Abstract

Agriculture is a vital sector in meeting food demands, yet its efficiency, particularly in irrigation water management, remains a challenge.

This study aims to design and implement a soil moisture monitoring system based on Arduino as an automation solution in agriculture. The system utilizes an FC-28 soil moisture sensor connected to an Arduino UNO microcontroller to detect real-time soil moisture levels. When the moisture drops below a predefined threshold, the Arduino automatically activates a water pump via a relay module to initiate irrigation. Moisture information is also displayed on a 16x2 LCD screen for easy monitoring. Test results show that the system functions effectively by accurately responding to dry and moist soil conditions. This system offers benefits in conserving water usage, increasing crop productivity, and reducing the workload of farmers and gardening enthusiasts. With further development, the system has the potential to be integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology to support smart and sustainable agriculture.
